an idea to DYE for
my idea is simple, at the moment we are limited in how we dye our items, instead i would like us to be able to dye any part of the item, it could be done easily thru a series of checkboxes and a preview picture next to it,
ex: lets say i have a sword and want to dye it gold, i double click the dye then click on sword, a box with 2 checkboxes pop up 1 saying hilt, 1 saying blade and a picture pops up showing u what it will look like if u do this
now lets say u want to do something more complicated, lets say u have a warrior fissure armor chest plate, but u want the main part to be gold instead of black with silver lining, you would have a series of dyes u would use, and each time u double click one u get another series of boxes to choose from, casing, trim, spikes, and emblems. u get the idea, i beleive this would add variety to our armors and allow a person to look any way he choses, u could see people in awesome armors in a completely unique style , so what do u guys think

This is something GW really, really needs. I am tired of dyeing something and not knowing what it looks like, and then relizing i wasted money on dyeing it because it doesn't look as good as I thought it was.
Also, it would be nice to be able to dye all of the armor and weapons, not just one part, and this would easily fix that.

Oh, and if they add this, then they should add the ability to see what you character would look like in certain armor before you buy the armor.

This is a much needed feature. Especially when some of the sets cost 15k. I hate having to open a web browser and do a search to find out what the armor will look like.

And to find that they don't have the option of Hot Pink in there =/

There are some weapons out there that don't accecpt dye, meaning you have to sell it back to the trader at a loss (not a big deal, unless its black/silver dye). And there are some weapons which will take the dye, but appear unchanged, meaning you dont have the dye to sell back.
The OPs idea sounds good, so I support it. However it also sounds like it will take a lot of work to implement.

I like this idea. The preview is something that would be really useful and the extra customisation that would be possible would mean we could have (almost) unique armours for our characters.

Yeah nice idea, but I personally think the entire dye system needs reworked. I don't see why the dye trader can't be a dye mixer and present the player with a basic 3-slider colour picker (hue, saturation and brightness maybe?) with 8-16 notches each, the colours priced on supply and demand as they are now. Dye mixes would drop with no name (there would be no core colours like 'red', but red would be some hue with neutral saturation and brightness) but a little colour preview box on hover. The system would see a dye as 3 integers ([-8, 5, 2] for example). I don't know if that info should be available to the player or not. I think if anything it would promote some individuality. I suppose a downside would be that no one would know if they have picked up a valuable dye until they see the dye trader, but that's hardly a big deal.
They should totally do the preview thing though.

nice idea.... should have the option to check more checkboxes at 1 coz u dont wanna pay 7 black dyes for a warrior chest plate.... n u should have the ability to buy armor upgrades that would change the look and the abilitys of the armor .. say spikes or some.... (runes should have a visual effect omg)
like say it degenerates ure armor n gives u protection from projectiles or some....
wtf...
u get the point r8? i hope anet would make this SOON.... and usable everywhere so u can modify ure armor anywhere on the 3 continents
again i hope my idea is original

Beeing able to dye diferent parts of the armor would reduce the "clones" walking arround outposts
Later.

I think its a good idea. Though a bit more detail on how it could be implemented would be good.
If by pricey people mean the weapons will shoot up in price. Then i'd have to disagree with them. Dying weapons like modding them never raises the weapons price. You can't dye a crappy fellblade black and expect 8k for it.

The dye system they have now is pretty much a lame gimmick or excuse for armor customization. They could at LEAST implement some of these ideas in this post if not other good customization options such as armor accessories and magical auras for armor and waeapons. I am really getting tired of seeing the same armors and setups over and over. I'm even seeing clones in fissure armor even in small towns and outposts.
Oh and yay...my 300th post.
